Ingredients
Method
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.
Prepare the Brownie Layer
- In a medium bowl, mix applesauce and sugar until smooth.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, and whisk well.
- Stir in cocoa powder, almond flour, salt, and baking powder until just combined. Set aside.
Prepare the Cookie Layer
- In another bowl, mix applesauce and sugar until combined.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix thoroughly.
- Gradually add oat flour, baking soda, and salt. Fold in dark chocolate chips.
Assemble the Brookies
- Spread the brownie batter evenly into the prepared pan.
- Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough on top and gently press to cover the brownie layer as much as possible.
- Bake: Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with only a few moist crumbs.
- Cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing
Notes
Why This Works:
- Regular sugar provides a familiar sweetness, while the rest of the ingredients (like oat flour and dark chocolate) keep the recipe lighter and more nutrient-dense than traditional brookies.
