Ingredients

  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 5 slices of Italian bread (cut into 1-inch cubes)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp butter
Coating:
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp vanilla bean sugar (or regular sugar if unavailable)

Method

  1. Prepare the coating: In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla bean sugar. Set aside.
  2. Make the egg mixture: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined
  3. Soak the bread: Place the bread cubes in the egg mixture and gently toss to coat. Let them soak for 2-3 minutes, ensuring they absorb the mixture but don’t become too soggy.
  4. Cook the bites: Heat a large skillet or non-stick pan over medium heat and add 1 tbsp of butter. Once the butter is melted, add half of the soaked bread cubes in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown on all sides. Remove the cooked bites and repeat with the remaining bread cubes, adding more butter if needed.
  5. Coat the bites: While the bites are still warm, toss them in the cinnamon-sugar coating mixture until evenly coated.
  6. Serve: Serve warm with maple syrup, whipped cream, or your favorite toppings.
